Book Blogger Peeps!

Just wanted to give a quick shout into the blogosphere to make sure everyone knows that there is still time to get a review copy of How I Magically Messed Up My Life in Four Freakin’ Days!

Book reviews are some of the best tools that an author has in reaching new audiences. The more reviews you get, the more likely your book is to be seen on Amazon, the more promotional opportunities become available, and the better the word of mouth!

So, for my awesome non-book review blog followers, if you’ve read any of my books, please take a minute and leave a review on Amazon and Goodreads if you’re a member. Even if the review is only “Nice read!” it counts and helps to no end!

If you’re a book blogger, click here to sign up for the book review extravaganza!

The Book Addict’s Lament July 18, 2016

I have a problem. It’s kind of bad and a little embarrassing. Remember that time I moved everything I own into a storage unit?

In that tiny 4.5X8.5 space, there are fifteen boxes of books, not counting music books and other sheet music. Just books. Fifteen boxes of them. What is the one thing I own more of than anything else? Books! And what store is always the death of me? Barnes and Noble!

It’s an addiction! And it’s terrible!

I know, I know. I’m an author, and authors are supposed to like books. But I own books I haven’t even gotten to read! I’ll buy four, get through two, buy four more. It’s an endless, vicious cycle of the compulsive need to buy more books! And I own a nook! But it doesn’t matter. I want the weight of the paper in my hands. I want to see the spine on the bookshelf I don’t currently own. (more…)

The Adventurer Returns January 29, 2016

I’m back!

I know it’s been forever, and I have literally been on the other side of the world. But I am back, and boy do I have some stories to tell!

First of all, Thailand was amazing!

I wouldn’t call it much of a vacation. Except for the two days I spent in this hammock binging on the entire Maze Runner series.

More like an expedition. Where you lost most of your supplies and got heat stroke. Sort of like your ox dying and getting dysentery, but with this as a view.

Seeing another culture so vastly different from the one I have lived with my whole life was amazing.

And I can’t wait to share all my stories with you.

I’m road tripping down to Florida with my husband to start rehearsals for a show I am thoroughly excited about, but I will be posting regularly from now on. And to make up for my absence, I leave you with this video of my husband being dragged up onstage by a Thai drag queen. And yes, they are dancing to Hava Nagila.

The Voices From My Head March 11, 2015

I hate the sound of my speaking voice. I suppose that’s not too uncommon, and it’s not as though there is really anything wrong with the way I speak. I just hate listening to it, which is a problem if you’re an actor and have to submit video auditions. Lucky for me, I have a husband who is willing to edit my videos for me. But still, if I can hear my voice in onstage monitors, it freaks me out. I don’t sound like Fran Drescher or anything, it’s more like a childlike fascinated revulsion of is that really me? (more…)

When I was fifteen, I took a community college course all about children’s literature. We studied everything from Green Eggs and Ham to Harry Potter. I did an amazing defense of the use of upper vocabulary words in The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles. And our final project was to write a children’s story. (more…)

When I was little, I loved to read. Even before I knew how to read all I wanted to do was sit on a nice cuddly lap and be read to. I would toddle up to my mom and say, “Read me!” She would tell me to go lick a book (Really, I meant to type pick a book, but lick a book was so funny, I wanted to keep it in there for your reading enjoyment). I would pick as many as my chubby little arms could carry and insist she read me the entire pile before freeing her for a few minutes until my next demand of “read me.”

Once I was old enough to choose books based on more than color, texture, and ability to fulfill oral fixation, we had gotten to the bedtime story wars. (more…)
