What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stranger

The Knees VS The Heart March 6, 2018

It’s official. I’m old.

Not that old, but too old to do things like this:

Recently, touring with The Wizard of Oz delivered the husband and me to Saint Louis, and, of course, we had to take a trip to the City Museum.

The place is amazing. It’s like an adult got day drunk, stumbled by a kids’ park, and was like, “Damn. Kids have all the fun. I’m going to build something better where adults can climb stuff. And there’s going to be a bar inside the jungle gyms. No! Multiple bars. Yeah.” (more…)

A Rave Review June 9, 2017

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it on here before, but I wrote the lyrics for a musical! The show is called Second Chances: The Thrift Shop Musical, and it’s currently playing at a really great professional theatre. My husband wrote the music for the show, one of our mentors created the concept and wrote the script, so the whole thing has been an amazing experience. It’s been about two years with the project now, and the coolest thing happened! We got an amazing Broadway World review!

The goal is to shop the show out to other theatres, and that awesome review is a huge stepping stone!

(Pardon me whilst I give the show folk a big ole’ pat on the back.)

The husband and I never really set out to write the music for a show. (more…)

The Musical Has Opened! September 26, 2015

Second Chances: the Thrift Shop Musical is officially opened, and I am officially a big kid lyricist! I’m like in the program and two newspaper articles! It’s crazy! One of the articles even stated my age, which was… great. I mean, I’m not terrified of being an aging chorus girl. That would be weird. Maybe I should look up how expensive botox is. Hmm…

But really, sorry for the absence. Between moving literally across the country and opening a brand new musical I haven’t had two brain cells to rub together or time in which to do it.

Even still… I got nothing.

I don’t have any funny stories. I mean, there’s a cat who thinks he lives in my company-provided condo. Or maybe he’s just trying to spread his wings and make the whole condo complex his home. I opened the door to go outside, and the cat ran in. As soon as I reached down to grab him, he ducked under the futon so I couldn’t reach him. Tried to lure him out with cheese. Cat hates cheese. Had to wait it out. Was a little late for rehearsal because I had a stowaway cat hiding under one of the four sofas in my living room.

And I made friends with a lizard.

Sorry, guys. I’ll try for excitement on Monday.

I love my husband. I really, really do. He’s a great guy, and I’m not just saying that because he edits my posts for me. Thanks, baby.

There are, however, gaps in his knowledge. Like that electric blankets require electricity. And sometimes he does things like set my birthday cake on fire. But I do love him.

Well, a few years ago we were doing a show called The Full Monty. (more…)
