The first leg of the Wizard of Oz tour is winding down.

It’s been a blast, and we’ve played a ton of great houses like the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

And the Lexington Opera House in Lexington, KY.

We had one crazy snow storm day.

(Please knock on wood right now that we don’t have another…at least not before Christmas Break.)

We’ve also played a few venues that have been a little more interesting… like ice rinks.

I’m not afraid of winter, but I’m not a person who particularly likes being cold. Being a super peppy Ozian while freezing my tatas off is particularly challenging. We’re literally performing on the ice! They lay down panels to cover the ice and build up a platform as our stage. But that temperature that you bundle up to go ice skating in, I’m dancing in that with peep-toe shoes and green fishnets.

Just picture me in a purple wig, snot dripping from my frozen nose, as Dorothy clicks her heels and heads back to Kansas.

My life is nothing if not glamorous.

At least my monkey costume is really warm.

In traveling for the Wizard of Oz tour, we get to go to some really great places and some places that…aren’t on the radar for must-visit destinations.

Recently, we visited Detroit. The only things I knew about Detroit were that cars got made there and that the economic slumps hit it very hard. While both those things are true, nobody ever mentioned how awesome Detroit is!

The husband and I wandered out of our hotel, just looking to stretch our legs, and we found a huge amount of outdoor art that led us to a Christmas wonderland!

They had blow-up igloos with table tennis and hot chocolate, a tent decked out to be a ski lodge, and an ice skating under a giant Christmas tree!

So what did these wise actors do on their precious day off? We went ice skating! (more…)
