Today we had our first adventure hike in Alaska! And it seemed only fitting to revisit our old nemesis Triple Lakes. In an effort to not require an emergency fire this time around, we only did the very start of the trail that we knew was clear.

We made friends with an evil squirrel. And by friends, I mean he stared at us before launching himself like Batman across the path. And by evil, I mean most squirrels are probably evil. Just look at their beady eyes.

We got to see the mountains.

And I even stuck my hand in the lake, which was surprisingly unpainfully cold. Maybe I’ll even go swimming there in a few months!

My husband and I have always led a charmed sort of life. (Please proceed to knock on whatever wood you have available and tututu away the evil spirits if you happen to be Jewish or Fiddler on the Roof obsessed.) But it’s true. That’s not to say that bad things don’t happen. They do. Or that we don’t work really hard to succeed. We do. But we have always seemed to live in a fairy land of our own making. Call it being flighty. Call it being unrealistic, or worse, an artist. But we live in a magical world where everything is possible. (more…)

Dear wonderful readers,

I hope that you have had a fantastic Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate, if any. I offer to you my deepest apologies for not having posted on Christmas. I was in the car driving from Pennsylvania to Arizona. Spending the 24th, 25th and 26th of December in the car could have been a horrible fate to suffer, but my dear friends, I found a way out of the doom. (more…)
